We are looking committee members for the year 2015/2016!
Several exciting positions are becoming available on our committee for the academic year of 2015/16. As a committee member, you will get the opportunity to organise very diverse activities and interact with both students from several departments, as well as established firms. President The President: (TAKEN!)
Oversees all SIAM activities and coordinates committee meetings. They typically have a strong role in organising the yearly student conference, and communicate with other student chapters and SIAM itself.
Vice President: (TAKEN!)
The Vice President is responsible for organising talks on non-academic careers (usually, though not exclusively, given by Oxford DPhil alumni). They also support other committee members in organising and running events, such as the annual conference and socials.
The Treasurer’s main responsibilities are those related to the society’s finances. These include the reporting of the society’s finances to the committee and controlling bodies, contacting the current sponsors to renew sponsorships, contacting new sponsors, access and control of the society’s bank account, reimbursing conference attendees for travel expenses, etc.
The Secretary’s responsibilities include preparing the minutes of meetings and keeping the society registered with the University on a termly basis. Further responsibilities are those shared with the rest of the committee in organising events etc.
The undergraduate representative aims to represent the undergraduate members’ interests with regards to the society, and make our events accessible and known to them. They also have the opportunity to organise activities tailored to undergraduates.
The main task of the department representatives is to circulate the information of events organised by SIAM in their respective Departments, and try their best to make colleagues engage in the SIAM community.
The position of social secretary is an optional one, and its holder has the freedom to organise a diverse range of social events, including drinks events and excursions.
